IBA Painted Silo Challenge

Recently an new challenge was introduced to the IBA ride list specifically around the phenomenon that has arisen out of small towns painting their grain silos (and also water towers). The Australian Silo Art Trail Series.

There are four levels to the challenge –

  • Insanity – visit all painted silos within 10 days
  • Gold – visit all painted silos in four connected states within five days.
  • Silver – visit all painted silos in three connected states within three days.
  • Bronze – visit 45 painted silos (no time restriction).

These are an amazing depiction of communities and add colour and character to the landscape. I was already out riding around and photographing painted grain silos and water towers and posting them on this page as I love the art, the scale, and what these magnificent works bring to the surrounding communities. For this IBA challenge I plan on working towards the bronze level as I am already out there photographing them, for a number of these I’ve had to go back and retake the photographs to include my IBA flag.

A few ride reports from rides where I have collected silo photos –

Below are all the painted grain silos I have visited on my bike, I visited many of these before the IBA challenge was announced so as I re-visit sites I have updated the photos with a version including my IBA flag.

Current tally – 46
