Right Place, Right Time

Sometimes the stars align and you’re in the right place at the right time.

We had an urgent call on Tuesday afternoon after a friend of a friend fell ill and had to rush home straight away. They had a stay at Jamala wildlife lodge here in Canberra booked and paid for but couldn’t get a refund, and really didn’t want it to go to waste. So we were gifted a two-night stay.!

The timing couldn’t have been better as it fit nicely between Deb’s classes and I was able to move my calendar at the last minute.

But it was more than that. Only days before I mentioned that it’d be nice to get away for a couple of days as we’ve been so busy; my birthday was the following week; and, it’s just on ten years since Leon did the Cheetah experience as one of his last outings before passing away only months later.

It was like stars had aligned.

Walking into this, we were very conscious that this was only gifted to us as someone was ill. We were both very greatful but also a bit guilty. But in the spirit of the gift, we embraced it, and took it all in.

This certainly wasn’t something we would normally do.

If you’re reading this. Thanks.

Included in this package was not only beautiful rooms but a stay choked full of experiences, great food and wine, tours of the zoo, and up-close experiences with a number of different animals.

Our first night was in a regular room which had our own little secluded patio. Our second night we moved rooms where our house guest was a big pussy-cat… well tiger but sleeping on his back you just wanted to reach through the glass and rub his belly.

Good morning Ravi

Just after we went to bed we heard him wandering around grunting … I wonder how strong that glass is … I’m sure it’s fine… I’ll just go to sleep now, he’s only a really big cat…

Here are a few photos from our stay.

We met the Cheetahs

…and fed the tiger

And Deb even got to say hello to this big guy before he got bored and wandered off.

All up it was a great couple of days.!
