While in Coober Pedy we sat and discussed many options of where we could go but nothing really grabbed us.  The coming weekend is our annual memorial run to remember long distance riders who have died. So as part of the weekend we like to do a minimum 1600km ride (in the day). Therefore we were trying to build this into our plan and have us in Wilmington on Friday night.

So the revised plan –

• Wednesday ride to Cleve in the Eyre Peninsula
• Thursday – ride across the peninsula to Ceduna
• Friday – ride to Wilmington via Madura in Western Australia.

Wednesday – 760km

A nice cruise back down the Stuart highway to Port Augusta and then down onto the Eyre Pennisula.  From here we made our way to Cleve, a small farming town, where we stayed with one of Ed’s friends.  This was a great stop and I have to thank Ben who made us feel very much at home and was a highlight of the trip.  It was great to have a look around the property and be lavished with an amazing roast lamb for dinner.  It was like visiting a long lost friend you haven’t seen for years.

Thursday – 400km

A short days ride, just hanging out and looking around in order to get to our starting point for our bigger ride on Friday, including stopping at a couple of smaller towns to have a bit of a poke around.

At Elliston there is a very nice cliff top drive which takes you on a circuit and includes various artworks along the drive.

Clifftop drive

Then onto Streaky Bay for lunch at the pub overlooking the bay and then a walk out on the jetty.  However the jetty does do your head in a bit as the jetty points north.

I have to admit I was feeling a bit guilty for not calling in on some friends who live at Port Lincoln as I was so close.  But time just didn’t allow it.  However, standing in the main street of Ceduna organising our next steps and Craig pulls into the park right next to us!  Bonus.  As Craig spends a bit of time working in Ceduna he hooked us up with some cheap accommodation and then it was great to spend a few hours catching up over dinner.
